Onyx is the only semi-precious stone that allows for creating architectural forms out of pure light. Its unique crystal lattice transmits rays up to several centimeters deep, creating a 'supernatural' glow effect. In this study, we examine how to turn a block of onyx into your lobby's primary media object using modern LED technologies and circadian lighting principles.

Translucency Magic: Why Does Onyx Glow?
Unlike marble, onyx consists of parallel-fibrous chalcedony aggregates. This makes it a natural light filter. Honey, emerald, pink — each onyx variety colors light in its own way. We use this for 'atmospheric' design: a reception desk can shift its appearance from a monolithic stone to a radiant artifact throughout the day.
Backlighting Engineering: Uniformity Without Spots

The primary mistake when working with onyx is visible LED strips or 'hot spots' of light. We design receptions using thin Light Guide Plates (LGP), which ensure 100% illumination uniformity across the entire area. The distance from diodes to stone is mathematically calculated, considering each slab's density.
Color Management: RGBW and Scenarios
We do not just turn on the light — we manage its spectrum. Using RGBW diodes, we can adjust the stone's hue. Want to emphasize the green of Onyx Verde? We add a bit more emerald to the lighting spectrum. In the evening, the system can automatically transition to a warm amber mode, creating coziness.
Weight and Installation: Stone on a Light Frame
Onyx is a fragile material. We mount it on a special aluminum frame with double glass (triplex). This allows for using thin slabs (10-12 mm) while maintaining monolithic strength. Such a construction is safe, durable, and remarkably lightweight.
